The university of Karlsruhe is one of the oldest technical universities in Germany with an excellent worldwide reputation, which also shows in leading positions in university rankings . The fusion of the University of Karlsruhe and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe, a major research institute of the Helmholtz Association on 1 October 2009, created the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT, one of the world's largest research and teaching facilities. The KIT has well-equipped labs, excellent computer facilities and a wide range of training opportunities.

Karlsruhe has about 300,000 inhabitants, lies in the countryside, has excellent transport connections (highway, ICE rail network) and an exemplary public transport system (tram) as well as a great bike path network.

Karlsruhe is the center of the Middle Upper Rhine Technology Region with excellent future prospects. City and region have a very mild climate and a high recreational value, e.g. the Black Forest, Alsace and Rhineland-Palatinate are within easy reach.
