Photogrammetry at Google Scale

Thursday, 09 February 2023, 16:15-0:00
Zoom

The Satellite View and Street View of Google Maps and Google Earth are created by combining satellite, aerial and ground level imagery. In this presentation I will introduce Google's “Photogrammetry” team and its mission to transform raw imagery (and some other sources) into rich consumer and analytic geo-spatial products. To meet its ambitious goal, the team develops and applies—at a massive scale— advanced photogrammetric techniques: from machine vision, bundle adjustment and calibration, to 3D reconstruction, 3D localization, and machine learning. We’ll conclude with a deep dive into the problem of co-alignment of large corpora of geographic imagery and data.
