Das KIT Bewerbungsportal ist hauptsächlich für internationale Bewerberinnen und Bewerber schwer zu verstehen, da sie nicht das deutsche Bildungssystem kennen. Diese Anleitung stützt sich unter anderem auf den Fragen der letzten vier Jahre dieser internationalen Bewerberinnen und Bewerber. Das Bewerbungsportal schickt dir automatisch eine Eingangsbestätigung an die angegebene Emailadresse. Der Bewerbungsstatus ändert sich auf "eingegangen".

Nun passiert Folgendes: Deine Bewerbung wird vom International Students Office oder vom Studierendenservice hier am KIT einer formalen Prüfung unterzogen.

Schritt 1a: Wenn wichtige Informationen fehlen, wird der Bewerbungsstatus auf "vorläufig ausgeschlossen" gesetzt, was bedeutet, dass du die fehlenden Dokumente hochladen kannst. Dann wird der Antrag noch einmal geprüft und je nach Ergebnis geht es einen Schritt weiter:

Schritt 1b: Wenn alle Dokumente in Ordnung sind, wird der Bewerbungsstatus auf "vollständig" gesetzt und deine Bewerbung kann vom zuständigen  Zulassungsausschuss bearbeitet werden.

Schritt 2: Deine Bewerbung wird dann von dieser Zulassungskommission gemäß den Vorschriften bearbeitet.

Schritt 3: Die Rückmeldung wird dir im Portal angezeigt. Erwartet keine sofortige Rückmeldung. Sollte sich Ihr Bewerbungsstatus ändern, erhalten man eine E-Mail mit einer kurzen Erklärung.
Je nach den verschiedenen Verfahren innerhalb des KIT kann es Wochen dauern, bis man eine Änderung im Portal sieht. Aber es bleibt dabei: man wird über alle Statusänderungen informiert.

Der endgültige Status der Bewerbung kann sein:

- Ein anderes Angebot angenommen: Dies bedeutet, dass dein Antrag aus einem der folgenden Gründe vom Zulassungsverfahren ausgeschlossen wurde: du hast ein anderes Angebot innerhalb des KIT angenommen (z. B. wenn du dich für mehr als einen Studiengang beworben hast) ODER es wurde ein Zulassungsangebot für einen Antrag mit höherer Priorität ausgestellt ODER du hast einen Antrag auf aufgeschobene Zulassung gestellt ODER du hast keine Zulassung erhalten .

- Ausgeschlossen: Dies bedeutet, dass der Antrag geprüft und abgelehnt wurde, weil er nicht alle Anforderungen erfüllt und/oder Dokumente fehlen (fehlende Dokumente können nicht mehr nachgereicht werden), und dass die Bewerbung nicht mehr für eine Zulassung berücksichtigt wird.

- Abgelehnt: Dies bedeutet, dass du keine Zulassung erhalten hast.

- Zugelassen: Du bist zugelassen für diesen Studiengang und kannst nun den Studienplatz annehmen und dich entsprechend den Angaben im Portal einschreiben, sprich immatrikulieren. Die nächsten Schritte und Ratschläge findest du auf der Seite des Helpdesks. Je nach Studiengang hast du auch einen PDF mit weiteren Details über den Studiengang erhalten.

Accept your study place in the application portal!

This comes at no cost. Once you start the enrolment process, you secure your place at KIT, more options open up and you can push your deadlines back a few weeks, making it easier if you arrive a little late. If you accept your place, your portal status changes to enrolment started. This comes at no cost and no obligation to continue with the enrolment!

Next step in the portal: the right documents

• The portal will ask you for your de-registration certificate
  This is only for those who have a German certificate/a certificate from a German university! For most internationals, your de-registration certificate is your bachelor certificate. Look at it like this: KIT needs to see that you aren't studying in another uni in Germany, so they ask for a de-registration certificate. That doesn't apply to students coming from abroad but the enrolment system asks for it anyway. So as a workaround, international students simply upload their bachelor certificate that they already uploaded for the application.
• The portal will also ask for an M-10 health insurance certificate -> see the part on health insurance
• The portal will also ask for proof that you've paid the semester and study fee. This can be a copy/scan of your bank transfer slip. The actual payment cannot be confirmed by KIT - even if a visa office asks for it. This is also stated in one of the letters in your admission portal, just in case the visa office insists on written confirmation.
• The most important things for the bank transfer are:
  • Please make sure your reference number is exactly the one mentioned in the admission letter! Do not add any extra information. If the bank insists on adding any information, please add it after the number.
  • Beware of the time an international bank transfer takes - you can only be enrolled if you have transferred the fee to the KIT account before the deadline.
  • Make sure the amount transferred has bank charges included! Ask your bank about which bank charges they expect on both sides. The full sum must be paid to be enrolled. For example: Imagine the bank takes €10 per international bank transfer. KIT will say the €10 are missing and you'll have to pay €10 again to pay the extra €10. 
    What about SEPA? You can only use a "SEPA-Mandat" if you already have a bank account in Germany/Europe. You can sort that out when you're here.
• The portal will ask for other missing documents that weren't needed for the admission but are necessary for enrolment. This depends on what the enrolment regulations are for your study programme. For example, this could be a language certificate. Your admission letter will state what you need to provide, too.
• The portal will ask for the enrolment form: follow the instructions in the portal to upload it. If you don't live in Germany yet, leave the address lines blank. You change your address in the Campus Management System later when you're enrolled and have moved here.

Next step in the portal: Submit your enrolment application

If you have uploaded all the documents a 'submit enrollment application' button appears in the top or bottom line of the portal for you to click.If you still don't see the 'submit' button, try clicking in any part of the enrolment page then go to 'final' in the left hand menu. The 'submit' button should appear.
Your status should then change to enrolment submitted. You're still not enrolled though!

Next step: your enrolment documents are screened

This happens in the next days/weeks. You will get feedback in the portal if anything is missing or wrong. Depending on the outcome, your status will turn to enrolment incomplete if something needs attending to on your side (you'll get an email as usual for status changes) - or enrolment complete if all documents are ok. If it's complete then all you need to do is wait to be enrolled. At this point you are still not enrolled.

Next step: your clerk/officer enrols you.

After one last administrative step your status changes to 'enrolled'. 
Download all documents in your application portal, including the new one for enrolment, and cross over to the Campus Management portal.
You now have full access to the Campus Management System which provides you with new documents to download, including the official enrolment certificate that you will need for student tickets, insurances, administration, etc..
