ERASMUS+ is a program of the European Union with the aim of promoting student exchange within Europe.
Students are given the opportunity to study in another European country for one or two semesters. Thereby an ERASMUS+ mobility offers many advantages:

  • Exemption from tuition fees at the partner university
  • Free online language courses in the "major" languages and/or low-cost intensive language courses at the partner university
  • Recognition of achievements made abroad after appropriate preliminary clarification
  • Mobility allowance of up to € 250 per month for additional costs incurred abroad

International Students Office (IStO)

If you are interested, the International Students Office/ERASMUS+ team is your first contact at KIT. There, all Erasmus activities at KIT are coordinated, such as the administrative implementation of the program, the management of financial resources, and the payment of scholarships.

OUTGOER can find basic information about ERASMUS+, such as participation requirements, application procedures and deadlines, an overview of partner universities, etc., on the IStO website. In addition, once a month the IStO organizes information sessions on ERASMUS+, which explain in more detail the opportunities to study abroad with the ERASMUS+ program, the application procedure, requirements and funding.

INCOMER can also find the necessary information for applying for an ERASMUS study place at KIT on the ISto website for incoming students. There is also an ERASMUS+ Student Handbook with information about KIT, life in Karlsruhe and necessary formalities.

Partner Universities

An exchange is only possible with an institution with which an ERASMUS contract exists for the subjects of civil engineering, earth and environmental sciences. Corresponding universities can be found on the list of partner universities of the IStO. Up to 3 universities can be selected.

Application / Deadlines

The exchange program always refers to one academic year, i.e. the winter semester and the following summer semester. Students can participate in the exchange either in the WiSe, in the SoSe or in both.
Exchange semesters abroad can be carried out in the Bachelor's and Master's program.

For OUTGOERS there is only one application deadline at the end of the lecture period in the winter semester. Your documents should be received by your responsible subject coordinator no later than February 1 for the following winter semester and summer semester.

As a rule, you will need the following for an application to the department coordinator:

  • a letter of motivation
  • proof of previous academic achievements
  • proof of language skills

If there are any further requirements, please contact the respective coordinators (see list below).

Only after you have been selected by your department coordinator as an ERASMUS+ student, your application can be accepted at the International Students Office.

INCOMERS must apply to the KIT Int'l Students Office by June 1 for the winter semester or the full academic year.

ERASMUS Faculty Coordinators

The ERASMUS Faculty Coordinators maintain professional contact with our partner universities and are therefore best placed to provide information about individual partner universities and their study programs. The departmental coordinators are also generally responsible for advising on the design of learning agreements:
